In recent years, BDHS has been actively participating in many charitable fundraisers. Whether it is spiking for Trevor’s Treasures to help end childhood cancer or collecting donations around the holidays for people in need, the community never disappoints. This year, business teacher and cheerleading coach Mrs. Taryn Witt is helping to organize the Shining Stars Project in Nokesville through Project Ask, a non-profit organization that specifically aids people throughout Virginia, located at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond near Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). The project aims to help families with children going through cancer treatments and need financial assistance. All donations go towards providing support for local families.

Previously, the Shining Stars Project allows people to “adopt” a family and provide them direct support, but this year Project Ask is specifically asking for gift card donations. Gas, Target, Walmart – anything that could be used to make traveling or the purchase of gifts for their own children even a little easier on the parents. The drive is also collecting gift cards for a teens’ treasure chest in the hospital, where patients can pick something up after treatment sessions. Mrs. Witt recommends Starbucks, iTunes, or other related gift cards as good ideas.

All donations are due by Dec. 7, 2018, and can be turned into Mrs. Witt in room 1204 or the main office. The BDHS community has been an incredible source of support for the organization in the past, and a great way to spread some holiday cheer has always been through the support of others. Remember, every donation helps!
