Operation Turkey is a Reason to Give Thanks

Operation Turkey is an annual tradition that brings food to those who need it in time for Thanksgiving.

Hosted by the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Operation Turkey is a school-wide competition where the class that brings in the most food wins a breakfast.  It has been a tradition at the school for as long as anyone can remember. The food, made up of non-perishable items, is delivered to SERVE Prince William County in Manassas, where the food is distributed to families for the Holidays.

The food drive is the most popular drive that FBLA hosts and always has great success. This year the drive brought  in over 750 cans of food, with Mrs. Jacqueline Gerhard’s first period bring in the most food. This effectively ended the reign of Mrs. Heather Oberle, who has won for the past few years. Giving this competitive edge to the food drive,

makes it more fun and encourages students to give back to their community.

As the year continues, there will be many more drives and events for charity. BETA Club has a year-long food drive, the school hosts a Toys-for-Tots drive, and FBLA hosts the Shining Star project.

All of these events give BDHS a chance to say “thank you” to the community that has supported them for 90 years.
