This year, the BDHS girls’ basketball team is going strong. The team is satisfied with how they are performing so far this season.

Senior Catherine Forst has been on the team for four years. During freshmen year, she was on JV, but for the last three years she has played for the varsity team. Forst believes, “This year was a little bit of rebuilding for the team, due to the loss of our two senior guards last year. Everyone had to adjust to everyone.”

Junior Sophia Stoernell has also been on the team for the past four years. She was on JV throughout 8th and 9th grade but was on varsity for her sophomore and junior year. When asked what the difference about this year than last year, Sophia answered, “This year we have mostly freshmen on the team, opposed to last year with most juniors and seniors.”

The team has a specific routine to prepare for games. “To prepare for a game as a team we’ll go over our opponents game plan, so that we are ready to start. We do a lot of fundamentals in prior practices to ensure that we are ready. Before the game, the team usually have a pre-game concert to boost up our energy with a motivational speech to follow,” replied Forst. “We watch film so we know what kind of plays they will run so we can adjust our defense.” Stoernell added.

After each win, the team loves to celebrate. “We play loud music in the locker room,” Stoernell responded. “Our coach gives us a congratulations speech then we go in for a huddle cheer where we will chant family,” Forst recalled.

The girls have progressively grown together and have experienced a ton throughout the season.  “We have bonded really well as not a unit, but as a family. We’re super close on and off the court,” Forst smiled. “Everyone on the team is always looking for ways to get better,” Stoernall added.

The overall record so far this year is 11-0, while last year’s overall record was 11-12. Both girls’ opinions on the team are similar. They both agree that this year the team is working extra hard to keep their undefeated record.
