Parasite (movie)

Their were a lot or great movies made in 2019. One of the most successful movies however, was Parasite. Parasite won awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Feature Film at the 2019 Oscar awards. So how did a movie get all these awards?

A good chunk of the movie’s success can be given to the director, Bong Joon-ho. Joon-ho has had good success as a director tor and has won academy rewards for his movies Snowpiercer and Mother and has continued his success with Parasite. Joon-ho’s experience as a director was definitely a major reason why Parasite was the first all Korean speaking cast to win an academy award.

Another reason for the movie’s success is the message is sends. The movie shows the vastly different lifestyles of the rich and poor classes in South Korea through the Kim and Park families. The Kim family (a family of four)represents the poor class in South Korea and throughout the movie con their way into getting jobs by working for the Park family. The Park family (also a family of four)are unaware that the Kim’s are related and hire all four of the Kim’s to various jobs such as a language tutor to a house maid. The movie focuses on how lowly the Park family thinks of their workers and at several parts throughout the movie complain of the Kim’s “special smell”. The Park’s mistreatment of the workers angers the Kim’s and divides the vastly different families even more than before.

Parasite is a very well written and great movie. The message of the movie is very thought provoking and can teach the viewer a valuable lesson when it comes to class and, hopefully, will be remembered for a long time.
