“The Sea Farer” by Marley Desir

The seafarer sailed on the open water, no direction of where to go
The somerset grey sky created an air of mourning
For that seafarer had lost man’s most prized possession
His eyes
His eyes that were the key to open the door to the spectrum of colors the world had to offer
It seemed so long ago
A glorious battle which painted his clothing a victorious and dawning red
But a soldier of dark night struck him
Turning his world into a bleak abyss
Now he could only feel the colors swirling around him
So close yet just out of reach
He could no longer stare at the bustling empire sky
He could no longer see the organic green of the earth around him
The amber wave of autumn was lost to the poor seafarer
As well as the script and blissful white of winter
But losing his sight made the seafarer appreciate the world in different ways
He could no longer stare at that empire sky
But rather he could feel the wind and air, creating an image of the vast heavens in that bleak
abyss
He could no longer see the organic green of the earth around him
But rather he could feel and smell the blessings of Mother Earth all around, filling the depths of
that bleak void
The amber wave of autumn was lost to the poor seafarer
But the sound of the scarlet maple leaves beneath his feet brought back memories of those fun,
windy fall days
For the seafarer could no longer see
But filled the nothingness with something
For he had created his own world
A world full of colors and sights that filled the dark, blank abyss
