“Mother” by Natalie Bashore
September 9, 2022
Mother,
A beautiful flower,
Separated from the others,
By a tree’s many branches.
It’s been so long,
Since you’ve been gone,
But now the pain of the grief has hit the hardest.
It hits where the heart is,
And removes all happiness,
Except for the slight luck on my better days.
There aren’t many better days,
Since I realized that you’ve gone away,
Now the darkness shuts out where all the light is.
You’re a different color.
You’re bright and glowing, Mother,
While the rest of us left,
Are in the shadows of the days we’ve wept.
Separated by the branches,
And by the sky that divides our chances.
We are somehow connected,
But now I’m alone,
In a place that is called “home”.
It’s black and I’m in darkness.
Only you know where my heart is,
And that I’d rather be with you,
Than in a black garden of only two.
The only two that remain,
We only stay ‘till the light shines on our faces,
Because now we’re out of place.
I’m the darkness in the light, Mother.
Turning bright only by the light, Mother.
Hoping to see you,
I miss you, Mother.
